Indian Naval Ship (INS) Imphal has arrived at Port Louis, Mauritius, to participate in the nation’s 57th National Day celebrations on 12 March 2025. This visit continues the tradition of Indian military involvement in Mauritius’s National Day events.
During its stay from 10 to 14 March, INS Imphal will engage in various activities, including training exchanges, sports events, and community outreach. A joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance exercise with Mauritius Coast Guard ships is also planned.

These interactions align with India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and the SAGAR vision (Security and Growth for All in the Region). This vision was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mauritius a decade ago during the commissioning of MCGS Barracuda, the first Indian-built warship for the Mauritius National Coast Guard.
Commissioned in December 2023, INS Imphal is the third of four Project 15B (Visakhapatnam class) indigenous destroyers. It features advanced weapons, sensors, and machinery, ranking it among the world’s most technologically advanced warships.
The deployment of INS Imphal underscores India’s commitment to a safe and stable Indian Ocean Region, reinforcing the strong historical and cultural ties between India and Mauritius.
