Mumbai University has introduced new examination guidelines for students appearing for exams from the 2026-27 academic year. As per the revised rules, students will need an APAAR ID to download their examination hall tickets and will have to reach the exam centre at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time.
The university has made submission of the APAAR ID mandatory for generating hall tickets. Students who fail to provide the required details may not be able to access their hall tickets and could face difficulties during the examination process.
APAAR, or Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry, is a 12-digit student identification number that digitally stores and links a student’s academic records. The initiative is part of efforts to create a unified digital academic identity for students.
The decision was taken after discussions and approvals from the University of Mumbai’s Board of Examinations and Evaluation, Management Council and Academic Council. The university said the new rules aim to make the examination process smoother and ensure proper verification before exams begin.
To help students complete their APAAR ID creation, ABC ID linking and Aadhaar authentication, Mumbai University has organised an Aadhaar facilitation camp. The camp was scheduled on August 19 and 20, 2026, for students facing issues with the process.
Students who have not yet created their APAAR ID or are facing technical problems have been advised to use the facilitation arrangements provided by the university. They have also been asked to carry their Aadhaar cards and other necessary documents while visiting the camp for verification and assistance.
Along with the APAAR ID requirement, the university has also introduced a new reporting time rule for examinations. From the 2026-27 academic year, students must be present inside the examination hall at least 30 minutes before the exam begins.
For example, students appearing for a 10:30 am examination will have to reach the hall by 10 am. The university has instructed principals, directors and heads of departments of affiliated colleges to inform students, teachers and examination staff about the new rule.
The early reporting requirement has been introduced to allow enough time for identity verification, seating arrangements and other examination procedures before the test starts.
Mumbai University has advised students to plan their travel in advance and avoid reaching examination centres at the last minute to ensure a smooth and stress-free exam experience.
