Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal will visit Japan from August 24 to 27, 2026. During the four-day visit, he will travel to Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka.
The minister will lead India’s largest-ever business delegation to Japan. The delegation will include more than 200 business representatives from a wide range of sectors.
These sectors include manufacturing, semiconductors, clean energy, steel, automobiles, financial services, healthcare and start-ups. The visit comes as India and Japan seek to deepen trade and investment ties.
The visit also reflects the importance of the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between the two countries. Both nations are looking to create more opportunities for trade, investment and industrial cooperation.
Key Meetings Planned in Tokyo
The first leg of the visit will take place in Tokyo. During this phase, Shri Piyush Goyal will meet senior leaders from major Japanese companies and industrial groups.
These companies have long contributed to India’s economic and industrial growth. The meetings will focus on strengthening business ties and exploring new areas of cooperation.
The minister will also participate in a round-table with Keidanren, the Japan Business Federation. Keidanren represents more than 1,500 leading Japanese companies.
In addition, the Tokyo programme will include focused sessions on semiconductors and artificial intelligence. There will also be discussions with start-ups and foreign institutional investors.
These meetings will highlight India’s growing position as an investment and innovation destination. They will also provide an opportunity to present business and investment opportunities in India.
Shri Goyal will hold bilateral talks with H.E. Mr. Akazawa Ryosei, Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). He will also meet senior members of the Japanese Government and Parliament.
During the Tokyo visit, the minister is also scheduled to interact with members of the Indian community in Japan.
Nagoya Focuses on Manufacturing
The delegation will then travel to Nagoya. The city is an important industrial centre in Central Japan and has a strong manufacturing base.
In Nagoya, Shri Goyal will lead a business roadshow with Chukeiren, the Central Japan Economic Federation, and the Nagoya Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
The minister will also engage with the leadership of Aichi Prefecture. Meetings with major manufacturing investors will form another important part of the programme.
The discussions will focus on sectors such as automobiles and steel. These industries have strong links with India’s manufacturing growth and offer scope for further cooperation between Indian and Japanese businesses.
The Nagoya leg will therefore provide a platform for Indian companies and investors to connect with Japanese industrial leaders.
Osaka Roadshow to Highlight Investment Opportunities
The final leg of the visit will take place in Osaka. Shri Goyal will lead an Investors and Business Roadshow in the city.
The roadshow will showcase opportunities in India’s manufacturing, clean energy and consumer markets. The minister will also meet leading Japanese companies working across electronics, industrial products and consumer sectors.
These engagements aim to create new business opportunities and encourage greater Japanese investment in India.
The Osaka meetings will also add to the wider effort to strengthen cooperation in industries that can support India’s future economic growth.
Japan Remains a Key Partner for India
