In a historic moment at Delhi’s iconic Ramlila Maidan, Rekha Gupta of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi at 12:35 PM today, Thursday, 20 February 2025. Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena administered the oath of office to Rekha Gupta in the presence of a massive crowd.

The grand oath taking ceremony saw an overwhelming turnout of over 50,000 attendees, including key political figures, party workers, and enthusiastic supporters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President J. P. Nadda graced the occasion, underlining the significance of this political shift. Chief Ministers from several BJP-ruled states, along with National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders, were also present to extend their support.
Ahead of her swearing-in ceremony on Thursday, Delhi CM-designate Rekha Gupta visited the Shri Marghat Wale Hanuman Baba Temple to seek blessings. She was accompanied by her husband, Manish Gupta, her mother-in-law, Meera Gupta, and her son, Nikunj. They were present with her both at the temple and during her oath-taking as Chief Minister.

The event marks a new chapter in Delhi’s political landscape, with citizens and analysts closely watching the policies and governance approach under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership.
Earlier in the day, before taking the oath, Rekha Gupta stated that fulfilling the promises made to Delhiites would be her top priority. Speaking to media persons, she said, “Today, daughters from humble families across India must be feeling proud and believing that they too can rise in life. I would like to thank our Prime Minister for always thinking positively about women and striving for their upliftment. I am grateful to him for entrusting me with such a huge responsibility. I assure you all that I will discharge my duties diligently.”

Meanwhile, speaking to the media on the occasion, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said, “We assure you that in the next five years, the Delhi-NCR region will be one of the best capital regions in the world.” Rajasthan Finance Minister Diya Kumari also expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “It is heartening to see a woman take charge as Delhi’s Chief Minister. Under her leadership, Delhi will witness good governance.”
