Shark Selfie Turns Tragic: Tourist Loses Hands

A 55-year-old Canadian woman suffered severe injuries after attempting to photograph a shark in the waters off Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. The incident occurred near Thompson’s Cove Beach, just meters from the shore. Witnesses reported that the woman tried to engage with the approximately six-foot-long shark, which then attacked, resulting in the loss of both her hands. Her husband intervened, managing to fend off the predator. The woman was transported to Cheshire Hall Medical Centre before being flown back to Canada for further treatment. Authorities have not confirmed the shark species, but some reports suggest it may have been a bull shark. Local officials have since issued warnings, advising the public to avoid approaching or feeding marine wildlife to prevent similar incidents.
