Shrewsbury International School India is set to open its doors on 8 August 2025. With it comes a globally respected educational philosophy focused on shaping thoughtful, ethical, and community-driven leaders. The school will bring the renowned Floreat model to Indian education, blending academic excellence with civic awareness and environmental responsibility.
UNICEF recognises that young people must be at the heart of peacebuilding and inclusive development. Responding to this global vision, Shrewsbury’s approach promotes whole-person education—nurturing critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and social engagement alongside academic growth.
The school’s UK counterpart, established in 1552, counts Charles Darwin among its alumni. His belief in adaptability over strength or intelligence continues to guide the school’s ethos. Shrewsbury India extends this legacy by preparing students not only to succeed, but also to serve.
According to Oliver Russell, Deputy Head of School and Strategy Development, community engagement will be integral to learning. “Through our partnership with the Jagran Social Welfare Society, students will work on initiatives supporting underserved communities. This will help them understand realities beyond their own and grow into responsible changemakers.”
Shrewsbury’s Floreat model encourages growth across five dimensions: Intellective, Active, Reflective, Expressive, and Aesthetic. These are supported by Salopian virtues such as kindness, integrity, self-mastery, and courage—essential qualities for future leaders.
“True leadership starts with kindness and a desire to solve real problems with empathy,” says Russell.
Sustainability is also a cornerstone of the school’s mission. Located on a 150-acre campus in Bhopal, the school will run fully on solar power. It also aims to plant over 1,00,000 trees, creating a vibrant, biodiverse environment where students can learn about and contribute to ecological well-being.
With its blend of tradition, innovation, and values-based learning, Shrewsbury School India is set to become a beacon of holistic education, nurturing the next generation of thoughtful, resilient and community-driven leaders.
