Vi Unleashes 5G Beast in Bengaluru with Samsung Power!
Vodafone Idea (Vi) has officially launched its 5G commercial services in Bengaluru. This marks a major push in India’s digital connectivity roadmap. The rollout is part of a strategic partnership with Samsung Electronics, which also powers Vi’s 2G and 4G networks.
Bengaluru, often called the Silicon Valley of India, joins Chandigarh and Patna in Vi’s growing 5G footprint. The three cities now benefit from Samsung’s compact, energy-efficient, and high-power radios. These systems boost capacity, reduce energy use, and improve overall mobile experience.
The groundwork began in 2024, when Vi and Samsung started upgrading existing 2G and 4G networks. Using Samsung’s Massive MIMO radios and virtualised RAN solutions, Vi is creating a next-gen network that is faster, smarter, and greener.
A highlight of this collaboration is the deployment of India’s first virtualised Base Station Controller (vBSC) for 2G. This innovation ensures even legacy systems can co-exist with futuristic technology.
Vi has focused on software-driven network upgrades, which improve operational efficiency and cut costs. The shift to virtualisation makes the system easier to manage and deploy, preparing Vi for the future of telecom.
Samsung’s Woojune Kim called the launch a step forward in India’s digital growth. He stressed Bengaluru’s leadership in tech and said Samsung will support Vi in delivering smarter connectivity.
Vi’s Chief Technology Officer, Jagbir Singh, said the Samsung partnership is crucial for offering fast and reliable 5G services. He added that Vi aims to deliver high-capacity internet to meet today’s data-driven needs.
Vi currently holds mid-band 5G spectrum in 17 circles and mmWave spectrum in 16. The company plans to expand 5G access across all these zones in the coming months.
The Bengaluru launch represents not just an upgrade in technology, but a shift in how mobile networks will operate in India’s digital future.
