India Yamaha Motor has marked a major milestone at its Chennai facility—10 years of production and the roll-out of its 5 millionth two-wheeler, the Aerox 155 Version S. The achievement cements the plant’s reputation as a hub for Yamaha’s domestic and global two-wheeler operations.
A Decade of Growth and Manufacturing Power
Established in 2015, the Chennai factory has steadily evolved into a cornerstone of Yamaha’s global production network. It builds several key models including the RayZR 125 Fi, Fascino 125 Fi, and the performance-focused Aerox 155 Version S. For international markets, it also manufactures the FZ series, Saluto, and Alpha scooters.
Over 30% of the factory’s total output is exported to regions like Europe, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. This global reach highlights the factory’s role in supporting Yamaha’s premium product strategy and compliance with international standards.
Integrated Setup for Seamless Operations
Spread over 177 acres, the Chennai facility uses an integrated model that dedicates 109 acres to Yamaha and 68 acres to vendor partners. This ‘One Factory’ concept enables tight supply chain synchronisation and streamlined production, improving efficiency and turnaround times.
The factory’s operations are continuously upgraded to meet the rising demand for high-value, small to midrange motorcycles and scooters. Yamaha has tailored this plant to adapt to evolving emission regulations and serve as an export powerhouse.
Sustainability at the Core
Yamaha’s Chennai plant showcases a strong focus on sustainable manufacturing. It features a 4450 kW solar power installation, supporting clean energy usage and reducing carbon footprint. The factory follows zero-water discharge practices, recycles wastewater, and uses architectural designs optimised for natural lighting and solar energy.
Infrastructure and utilities are centrally managed to reduce energy losses and improve operational control—making the plant a model for environmentally responsible industrial planning.
Vision for the Future
The factory plays a key role in Yamaha’s broader goals. By producing machines that meet both domestic and global standards, the facility aligns with Yamaha’s ambitions for smart, digital, and eco-friendly production. As the company strengthens its presence in India, this site is poised to support premium offerings and enhance Yamaha’s performance worldwide.
Celebrating this 10-year journey and the 5 millionth unit milestone, Yamaha reaffirmed its Make-in-India commitment. The brand aims to continue delivering reliable two-wheelers backed by advanced engineering, innovation, and sustainable practices.
