In a landmark tribute to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a special ₹100 commemorative coin and a postage stamp to mark the organisation’s 100th anniversary. The coin, remarkable for its design, features Bharat Mata seated on a lion in the ‘varad mudra’, making it the first time an image of Bharat Mata has appeared on Indian currency in independent India.
The release coincided with Vijayadashami, the day the RSS was founded in 1925, symbolising the triumph of good over evil. PM Modi’s gesture highlights the RSS’s century-long contribution to nation-building, including education, social welfare, and health initiatives across India.
Speaking at the event, PM Modi paid homage to the RSS founders, Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and M.S. Golwalkar, acknowledging their vision and dedication. The Prime Minister described the RSS as a force that has nurtured countless lives and inspired generations of volunteers to work for the nation.
The coin’s design uniquely blends the National Emblem of India with Bharat Mata, reflecting a vision of unity and national pride. Collectors and enthusiasts now have the opportunity to own a piece of history, while the commemorative postage stamp further celebrates the organisation’s achievements.
The centenary celebrations underscore the RSS’s role in fostering national integration, empowering youth, women, and farmers, and inspiring civic service. Through initiatives across diverse sectors, the organisation continues to shape India’s social and cultural fabric.
This historic release is not just a tribute to the RSS but also a symbol of India’s rich heritage, national identity, and the enduring spirit of service and dedication that the organisation represents.
