Government staff undergo vision screening as Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital promotes preventive eye health
A free Mega Health & Eye Screening Camp was organised for employees of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) at the MSO Building in IP Estate, ITO, New Delhi, to encourage preventive healthcare and raise awareness about the importance of regular eye examinations.
The initiative was conducted by Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital in association with the Shivshakti Jankalyaan Trust, with support from the Social Welfare Department of CPWD. The camp focused on early detection of vision-related problems and making quality eye care more accessible to government employees.
A team of experienced ophthalmologists and optometrists from Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital screened 77 CPWD employees during the camp. The examinations were aimed at identifying common eye conditions at an early stage, allowing employees to seek timely treatment if required. Early diagnosis plays a key role in preventing avoidable vision loss and maintaining long-term eye health.
Apart from conducting eye examinations, medical professionals also educated participants on the importance of routine eye check-ups. They highlighted how prolonged screen exposure, ageing, diabetes, hypertension and lifestyle factors can affect vision if left unchecked. Employees were encouraged to undergo regular eye screenings even if they did not experience any visible symptoms.
The event received support from Sanjay Ambasta, Deputy Director, Social Welfare Department, CPWD. He appreciated the initiative and said that employee health and well-being remain essential for maintaining an efficient and productive workforce. According to him, preventive healthcare programmes such as this demonstrate the government’s commitment to supporting the welfare of its employees.
The screening camp was organised through a collaborative effort involving a government department, a charitable trust and a specialised healthcare provider. The Shivshakti Jankalyaan Trust, known for its community welfare initiatives, partnered with Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital to bring professional eye care services directly to the workplace at no cost to participants.
Representatives from the trust said such partnerships help bridge the gap between healthcare providers and the community by making essential medical services easily accessible. They noted that organising health camps within workplaces encourages more people to undergo preventive screenings, which they might otherwise postpone due to busy schedules.
Officials from Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital emphasised that regular eye screening camps are an effective way to identify eye disorders before they become severe. They added that timely intervention can significantly reduce the burden of preventable visual impairment and improve overall quality of life.
The initiative also reflects the growing focus on workplace wellness across government organisations. Increasingly, employers are recognising that preventive healthcare not only benefits employees but also contributes to higher productivity, reduced absenteeism and improved overall well-being.
