Bengaluru, March 14, 2026: Amazon has announced the expansion of Amazon Air services to Northeast India, introducing new air cargo routes connecting Kolkata and Guwahati. The move aims to strengthen logistics infrastructure in the region and significantly improve delivery speed and reliability for customers. With the new routes, Amazon expects to cut transit times and boost delivery speeds by up to five times across the Northeast.
The expanded service will support deliveries across the seven sister states: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura. By combining dedicated air cargo capacity with its integrated air and surface transportation network, Amazon aims to offer faster access to a wide range of products including smartphones, consumer electronics, fashion, beauty products, and everyday essentials.
The inaugural Amazon Air flight to Guwahati was flagged off from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi by Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, India’s Minister of Civil Aviation. The event was attended by Abhinav Singh, Vice President – Operations, India and Australia at Amazon, and Chetan Krishnaswamy, Vice President of Public Policy at Amazon India.
Speaking at the launch, the minister highlighted the government’s continued focus on developing infrastructure in Northeast India under the vision of Act East Policy. He noted that the number of operational airports in the region has increased from nine in 2014 to sixteen today, strengthening connectivity and supporting cargo movement. According to him, initiatives announced in the Union Budget 2026 to expand air cargo infrastructure and warehousing will further support sectors such as horticulture and high-value exports.
Ravi Kota, Chief Secretary of Assam, said improved logistics connectivity would empower entrepreneurs and small businesses across the Northeast by expanding their access to national markets. Faster fulfilment and reliable delivery networks are also expected to create employment opportunities for local youth and support the region’s growing digital economy.
According to Abhinav Singh, Amazon has continuously invested in building one of India’s largest logistics networks since the launch of Amazon India in 2013. The expansion of Amazon Air into the Northeast reflects the company’s long-term commitment to improving connectivity and unlocking economic opportunities in underserved regions.
With the new air cargo routes, customers across Northeast India will gain faster access to Amazon’s extensive product catalogue, while sellers and entrepreneurs from the region will be able to reach customers nationwide with greater efficiency and reliability.
