In 2025, India’s OTT audience moved away from endless scrolling and began choosing content with intent. Viewers wanted stories that felt grounded, gripping, and emotionally engaging. Amazon MX Player rose to this moment, establishing itself as a key force in shaping how India streamed content through the year. By combining powerful franchises, bold new formats, and free access, the platform strengthened its place in everyday entertainment.
The year began with StreamNext, where Amazon MX Player announced an ambitious slate of over 100 titles, including 40 Hindi Originals, all available free of cost. This announcement set the tone for a year driven by scale and variety. Established franchises continued to deliver strong viewership, led by Ek Badnaam Aashram Season 3 Part 2. With Bobby Deol returning as Baba Nirala, the series crossed 250 million viewers and consistently topped Ormax Media charts as India’s most-watched show.
Other returning favourites added depth to the scripted lineup. Half CA Season 2 with Ahsaas Channa, Hunter Season 2 starring Suniel Shetty and Jackie Shroff, Jamnapaar Season 2, and Gutar Gu Season 3 delivered a mix of intensity and emotional realism. Amazon MX Player also expanded its storytelling range with Bhay: The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery, a psychological thriller inspired by real incidents, featuring Karan Tacker and Kalki Koechlin, which focused on atmosphere and investigation over spectacle.
Reality programming emerged as a major growth driver. Rise and Fall, hosted by Ashneer Grover, explored power and hierarchy through a social experiment format and crossed 500 million views, ranking among India’s top reality shows. Performance-based formats also thrived. Hip Hop India Season 2, judged by Remo D’Souza and Malaika Arora, became the country’s number one reality show between January and June 2025, staying on Ormax’s trending list for 11 consecutive weeks. Competitive shows like Battleground and I-POP STAR further strengthened the platform’s reality slate.
New originals such as First Copy and Aukaat Ke Bahar, featuring Munawar Faruqui and Elvish Yadav, brought creator-led storytelling into focus. Youth-centric shows like Lafangey and Gamerlog reflected the uncertainty and ambition of modern adulthood. International content also expanded through MX Vdesi, now hosting over 200 dubbed titles across Korean, Turkish, Mandarin, and anime, including popular titles like Demon Slayer.
This diverse content ecosystem attracted major brand partnerships with Samsung, boAt, Lux Cozi, Haier, and Sprite. By the end of 2025, Amazon MX Player crossed 1.4 billion app downloads and reached 250 million monthly active users. Available across Prime Video, Fire TV, and the Amazon Shopping App, the platform ended the year not just as a streaming service, but as a cultural fixture rooted in accessibility and storytelling that resonates with India.
