In a political shake-up, Atishi has resigned as Delhi’s Chief Minister following the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) significant election loss. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 48 out of 70 seats, marking their return to power in the capital after nearly three decades.

On Sunday, the outgoing CM submitted her resignation to Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor V. K. Saxena at the Raj Niwas. Atishi was Delhi’s CM from September last year. She was appointed to the post after Arvind Kejriwal decided to step aside from his post. Atishi, who held the top position in the Capital’s government, was the third woman to do so, after BJP’s Sushma Swaraj and Congress’ Sheila Dixit.
LG has dissolved the Delhi Assembly and Atishi will continue to serve as CM until the new government is formed.
The AAP, which previously held a strong majority, managed to secure only 22 seats in this election. The BJP’s victory is seen as a significant boost for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, especially after the party’s recent national election setbacks. As the political landscape in Delhi shifts, residents await the BJP’s next steps in governance and policy implementation.
