In a city known for sky-high rents and soaring daily expenses, one 22-year-old has caught everyone’s attention by showing how he lives quite comfortably on just ₹20,000 a month.

This young man shared his budget breakdown on Reddit, and it’s gone viral. His post has sparked conversations around spending habits, priorities, and how smart choices can make a big difference in urban living.

He’s been living on his own in Bengaluru for the past six months, managing his monthly expenses without any financial stress. He splits his rent with flatmates, skips alcohol and smoking, and avoids partying – choices he says help him stay within his budget.

Here’s how he spends each month:

  • Rent: ₹9,000 (his share in a ₹23,000 rented flat)
  • Food: ₹8,000
  • Transport (mostly public transport and Rapido): ₹2,000
  • Miscellaneous (things like toiletries, cleaning supplies): ₹2,000

That’s a total of ₹21,000, slightly over ₹20,000, but still impressive for a city like Bengaluru.

The young man clarified he’s not promoting a minimalist lifestyle for everyone. In fact, he encouraged others to enjoy their 20s in their own way if they prefer going out or partying. “This works for me, but don’t follow it blindly. Enjoy your life if that’s your vibe,” he added in his post.

His budgeting tips have struck a chord with many online. Several users praised him for being clear-headed and financially disciplined at such a young age.

One commenter wrote, “When I was 22, I was earning ₹22,000 and spending almost ₹14,000. You’re doing great!” Another added, “This shows it’s not always about how much you earn, but how you choose to live.”

There were even cheeky remarks about people earning lakhs but still feeling broke, while others on modest incomes seem to make it work.

The post has become a talking point among young professionals in Bengaluru and beyond, many of whom are now rethinking how they manage their money.
