The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme on 22 January 2025. Launched in 2015, the scheme aims to protect, educate, and empower girls. It also addresses gender imbalance and declining child sex ratios.
In Jharkhand, Palamu district actively implemented the initiative through a 100-day campaign called the 100 Din Sankalp Abhiyan. The campaign focused on gender inequality, child protection, and education. To raise awareness, authorities organised over 70 programmes with government officials, field representatives, and beneficiaries.
Notably, BBBP Week and the Pre-Conception and Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Enforcement Drive reached large audiences, highlighting gender equality and child safety. Mission Shakti Week recorded the highest beneficiary enrolment, with 280 participants.
Government officials and local representatives also collaborated to reach nearly 2,000 beneficiaries. They promoted education, legal awareness, and skill development. The campaign encouraged community involvement through rallies, street plays, signature drives, and essay competitions. Schools organised tree-planting events and academic excellence awards to stress the importance of girls’ education.
To spread the message, teams conducted door-to-door awareness drives, distributed informational materials, and used social media. They covered 165 panchayats and 14 Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) projects. This led to high participation, with 180,965 women attending.
Officials documented the campaign’s impact with photographs, videos, and attendance records. The initiative aims to reduce child marriage rates and strengthen support for girls’ education. The Central Government highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government, schools, and NGOs in advancing gender equality.
