The BJP high command has appointed Ravi Shankar Prasad and OP Dhankar as central observers to oversee the selection of Delhi’s next Chief Minister. Their role will be crucial in building consensus among party leaders and ensuring a smooth transition.
A formal announcement is expected soon, with a grand swearing-in ceremony at Ramlila Maidan on February 20. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to attend.
Several names are in the race for the top job, with Parvesh Verma, Rekha Gupta, and Mohan Singh Bisht emerging as frontrunners:
- Parvesh Verma – A sitting MP and the son of former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma, he brings strong Jat community backing and administrative experience.
- Rekha Gupta – A senior BJP leader and former Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha chief, she is seen as a strong organisational face with a focus on women’s issues.
- Mohan Singh Bisht – A veteran leader with deep roots in Delhi politics, known for his strong Hindutva and development-centric approach.
Delhi Police have rolled out elaborate security measures ahead of the oath-taking ceremony. Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Ravindra Yadav, stated that arrangements have been in place for two days to manage the anticipated large crowds and VIP attendees. Traffic management will also be a key focus due to the influx of vehicles.
With the stage set for a new era in Delhi politics, all eyes are now on who will wear the CM crown.
