The fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is on the verge of collapse as both parties exchange accusations of breaching the agreement. Israel has issued a stern ultimatum to Hamas, demanding the release of hostages by Saturday, warning that failure to comply will result in renewed military action.
Defence Minister Israel Katz emphasised that if Hamas halts the release of hostages, “all hell will break loose,” indicating a readiness to resume warfare. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed this sentiment, asserting that military operations would intensify if Hamas does not adhere to the ceasefire terms.
Hamas, on the other hand, accuses Israel of failing to meet its commitments, particularly regarding the provision of humanitarian aid. The group has threatened to delay further hostage releases until their demands are met.
Arab mediators, including Egypt and Qatar, are actively working to salvage the truce. A Hamas delegation has arrived in Cairo for negotiations aimed at resolving the impasse. However, the situation remains precarious, with both sides preparing for the possibility of renewed conflict.
The international community watches with bated breath as the deadline approaches, hoping for a resolution that will prevent further bloodshed in the already beleaguered Gaza Strip.
