The 6th edition of the Delhi International Leather Expo (DILEX) – Reverse Buyer Seller Meet (RBSM) began today at the India International Convention & Expo Centre (IICC), Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, New Delhi. Organised by the Council for Leather Exports (CLE) with support from the Indian government under the Market Access Initiative (MAI) Scheme, the two-day event (20-21 February 2025) aims to enhance India’s presence in the global leather and footwear industry.
DILEX 2025 has seen a major expansion compared to previous years. Around 225 Indian exhibitors are showcasing their latest collections across an 8,000-square-meter exhibition space, significantly up from earlier editions. The international presence has also grown, with over 200 foreign buyers from 52 countries, including major markets in Europe and the US—an increase from just over 130 in the last edition. Additionally, more than 500 Indian buying house representatives, retailers, and trade buyers are attending, ensuring robust domestic engagement and networking opportunities.
At the inauguration, Vimal Anand, Joint Secretary of the Department of Commerce, highlighted the resilience of India’s leather and footwear industry in the post-pandemic phase. He noted that India is well on track to achieve its ambitious export target of USD 7 billion by FY 2025-26, aided by government support such as import duty exemptions on wet blue leather and enhanced credit guarantees for MSMEs.
The global trade landscape is evolving, with disruptions such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, shifting US trade policies, and China’s aggressive stance altering supply chain dynamics. In this scenario, India is positioning itself as a strong alternative sourcing destination under the “China Plus One” strategy.
CLE Chairman R. K. Jalan underscored DILEX 2025’s role in strengthening India’s position as a global footwear and leather manufacturing hub. He stated that despite economic and geopolitical uncertainties, India’s leather sector has been witnessing consistent growth and aims to become one of the world’s top five leather exporters.
The event serves as a platform for one-on-one business meetings between manufacturers and international buyers, fostering trade partnerships and enhancing India’s leather export potential. With sustainability, innovation, and market expansion in focus, DILEX 2025 marks another step forward in India’s journey toward becoming a dominant player in the global leather industry.
