The inaugural Hockey India Masters Cup 2025 will begin from June 18 in Chennai, bringing veteran hockey players back to the field. The tournament will run till June 27 and will be held at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium, a venue known for hosting historic hockey events.
Organised by Hockey India and hosted by the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu, the Masters Cup is designed for men aged 40 and above and women aged 35 and above. This marks the first time a national-level tournament is dedicated exclusively to veteran players.
The tournament will feature both men’s and women’s categories, following a league-cum-knockout format. The final structure and pool distribution will be determined based on the total number of registered teams.
Former Indian women’s hockey captain Asunta Lakra expressed her excitement about the event. She described the opportunity to play again alongside other hockey veterans as emotional and special, highlighting the deep personal connection many former players still have with the game.
Interested players must register through their respective state member units to participate. The event promises not just competitive play, but also a celebration of lifelong dedication to Indian hockey.
