Afghanistan is reeling under the impact of a devastating earthquake that struck several provinces, causing loss of lives, widespread damage, and leaving many families without shelter. Amid this humanitarian crisis, India has stepped forward with swift relief measures, reaffirming its commitment to stand by the Afghan people during this difficult time.
On Sunday, India dispatched the first consignment of 1,000 family-sized tents, which reached Kabul and were handed over for immediate distribution among the affected families. Along with this, 15 tonnes of food supplies are being moved from the Indian Mission in Kabul to the quake-hit Kunar province to provide urgent assistance to survivors. The Indian government has also confirmed that additional consignments of relief materials will be sent directly from India starting tomorrow, ensuring a steady flow of support.
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar spoke with Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi to express condolences on the tragic loss of lives and to convey solidarity with the people of Afghanistan. He reassured that India remains committed to helping Afghanistan recover from this tragedy and wished for the early recovery of those injured.
This relief effort highlights India’s consistent humanitarian approach towards Afghanistan, which has already faced years of conflict, natural disasters, and economic challenges. The supplies being sent—ranging from food materials to shelter assistance—are aimed at easing the immediate hardships faced by families who have lost their homes and livelihoods in the disaster.
