The Indian Army contingent has left for Japan to participate in the 6th edition of Exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN, a joint military drill with the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force (JGSDF). The exercise will take place from 24 February to 9 March at the East Fuji Manoeuvre Training Area.
This annual drill, held alternately in India and Japan, aims to enhance interoperability in urban warfare and counter-terrorism under a UN mandate. The Indian team, comprising 120 personnel, will primarily include troops from the Madras Regiment, while the JGSDF will field an equivalent contingent from the 34th Infantry Regiment.
The exercise will focus on joint tactical drills, disaster response strategies, and high-intensity combat training to strengthen operational coordination. It follows the Indian Army Chief’s visit to Japan in October 2024, reinforcing growing defence ties.
Exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN highlights India and Japan’s commitment to regional security and their shared vision for a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific.
