Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has partnered with the Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR) to launch ‘Project Jeevan Dhara.’ This initiative aims to improve water availability and boost livelihoods in drought-prone Aurad Taluk, Bidar District, Karnataka.

The project covers nine villages across 5,322 hectares and will benefit over 11,000 residents from 2,063 households. Aurad Taluk receives just 800 mm of rainfall annually. More than 80% of its land has degraded, and groundwater levels continue to drop. With limited irrigation, many families depend on rain-fed, single-crop farming, forcing them to migrate for better opportunities.

Project Jeevan Dhara focuses on soil and water conservation using a ridge-to-valley approach. Key efforts include building check dams and gabions to recharge groundwater, reducing soil erosion, and promoting sustainable farming. The project will also introduce alternative livelihoods such as dairy farming, poultry, and tailoring. Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Village Development Committees (VDCs) will lead community involvement to sustain the initiative.

Sudeep Dalvi, Chief Communication Officer and Senior Vice President at TKM, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainable development. He said the project aims to tackle water scarcity, improve agricultural resilience, and create economic opportunities.

Project Jeevan Dhara will rejuvenate the ecosystem, strengthen agriculture, and enhance living conditions. This initiative reinforces TKM’s dedication to long-term rural development.
