MasterChef India continues to celebrate stories of culture, passion, and legacy, and this season introduces an inspiring father–daughter team, Venu and Avni Sharma, who are on a mission to revive the culinary heritage of Maharashtra’s Karada community. Though their family roots trace back to Kashmir and Kerala, the duo hails from Karad and brings with them a deep commitment to showcasing their region’s lesser-known flavours to the nation.
Venu, a farmer and advertising professional, and Avni, a talented food stylist, have grown together in an environment rich with stories, traditions, and tastes. During their appearance on the show, Chef Vikas Khanna asked about their motivation for joining MasterChef India. Avni responded with heartfelt clarity:
“When you open a restaurant menu, you often find North Indian, South Indian, Chinese, or Italian cuisine. But my dream has always been to highlight our community’s food—Karada cuisine. I want it to be recognised and celebrated on restaurant menus. This platform is crucial for making that dream visible.”
When Chef Khanna asked what she would name such a culinary space, Avni suggested, “Maybe Karada Spice Box…”. Chef Khanna, clearly moved, said, “I am in love with this idea.”
Reflecting on their journey, Chef Khanna remarked, “Food carries identity. It represents not just us but our ancestors. MasterChef India aims to provide a platform for voices like Venu and Avni’s stories rooted in heritage, legacy, and ambition.”
The Sharma duo’s vision of bringing Karad cuisine to national and international recognition exemplifies India’s evolving culinary narrative, where regional traditions are celebrated, and intergenerational partnerships drive innovation and pride. Their participation in MasterChef India highlights the show’s role as a stage where heritage meets hope, and where India’s culinary diversity continues to flourish.
MasterChef India airs Monday to Friday at 9:00 PM on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony Liv.
