Karimnagar Smart City recently saw the inauguration of significant urban development projects worth ₹61.55 crore across education, waste management, and social infrastructure. The Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs inaugurated these initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.
Major Projects Unveiled
- Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Stadium Development:
Transformed into a modern sports hub with an investment of ₹22 crore, the revamped stadium now boasts a commercial complex, renovated indoor hall, upgraded toilets, parking facilities, and landscaped spaces for recreation. - Multi-purpose School Park:
Spread over 5.96 acres, this ₹12.35 crore project includes a walking track, musical fountain, and recreational facilities, creating a vibrant community space for families. - 24×7 Water Supply in Housing Board Colony:
A ₹18 crore water distribution network ensures improved efficiency and accessibility in water management, benefiting thousands of residents. - Upgraded School Infrastructure:
With ₹9.20 crore invested, 27 government schools now feature improved facilities such as toilet blocks, compound walls, borewells, and sports amenities. Additionally, 53 schools have been equipped with smart classrooms, introducing e-learning tools to enhance education.
Achievements Under the Smart Cities Mission
Karimnagar Smart City has so far completed 36 projects worth ₹884 crore, with 14 projects worth ₹233 crore still underway. Initiatives under the ₹1,117 crore mission include:
- Smart Mobility: ₹480 crore invested in improving urban transport systems.
- Water Supply and Sanitation: ₹402 crore allocated to ensure sustainable water and waste management.
Environmental sustainability remains a key focus, with over 1 lakh metric tons of legacy waste processed under a bio-mining project.

The Smart Cities Mission, launched in 2015, continues to transform urban areas by leveraging technology and multi-sectoral initiatives. Projects in Karimnagar, such as the revamped Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Stadium with cycle tracks, skating rinks, and basketball courts, exemplify efforts to enhance recreation and ease of living.
