Inter Miami faced a tough challenge in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinals, falling 1-0 to Los Angeles FC (LAFC) at BMO Stadium. Despite Lionel Messi’s efforts, Miami struggled to break through LAFC’s solid defence, suffering their first defeat in the competition.

A defensive battle ends in LAFC’s favour

The match kicked off with a high tempo as both teams aimed to take an early advantage. Inter Miami dominated possession in the first half, with Messi and Luis Suárez combining well in attack. However, LAFC’s disciplined backline and goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau ensured Miami couldn’t capitalise on their chances.

The breakthrough came in the 64th minute when Nathan Ordaz found the back of the net. A misplaced pass from Miami’s midfield led to a fast break for LAFC. Ordaz received a well-timed pass inside the box and calmly finished past Miami goalkeeper Drake Callender, sending the home crowd into celebration.

Inter Miami pushed for an equaliser, with Messi nearly scoring from a long-range free kick in the 75th minute. Suárez also had a golden opportunity in the dying moments of the match but was denied by Crépeau’s reflex save.

With this 1-0 victory, LAFC carries a crucial lead into the second leg. Inter Miami must now win at home to keep their Champions Cup hopes alive. With Messi, Suárez, and Jordi Alba leading the charge, Miami fans will be hopeful for a comeback.The second leg is set to take place next week, where Miami will need a strong performance to overturn the deficit.
