Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured its largest-ever contract, valued at up to ₹15,000 crore, from QatarEnergy for a massive liquefied natural gas (LNG) expansion project. This deal marks a major milestone for the Indian engineering giant, further strengthening its presence in the global hydrocarbon sector.
The contract, awarded to L&T’s hydrocarbon division, involves engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work for QatarEnergy’s North Field Expansion Project. This initiative is a crucial part of Qatar’s ambitious plan to boost its LNG production from 77 million tonnes per year to 126 million tonnes by 2027. The project will involve the construction of critical onshore gas processing facilities designed to enhance production capacity and cater to the growing global demand for natural gas.
L&T’s stock witnessed a sharp surge following the announcement, as investors reacted positively to the company’s expanding international portfolio. Industry analysts see this order as a major breakthrough, reinforcing L&T’s expertise in executing large-scale oil and gas infrastructure projects. The contract is expected to significantly contribute to L&T’s revenue and further establish its reputation as a top-tier global EPC contractor.
With the North Field being the world’s largest natural gas field, the expansion project holds strategic importance not only for Qatar but also for the global energy market. The deal also strengthens India-Qatar energy relations, with L&T playing a pivotal role in enhancing Qatar’s LNG infrastructure.
L&T has been aggressively expanding its hydrocarbon business, having secured multiple large-scale international projects in recent years. The QatarEnergy contract follows a series of high-value deals, reflecting the company’s growing global footprint. Experts believe this project could pave the way for further opportunities in the Middle Eastern energy sector, boosting L&T’s long-term growth.
With project execution set to begin soon, L&T is expected to ramp up hiring and resource allocation to meet QatarEnergy’s ambitious timelines. The collaboration between the two companies is seen as a significant step toward achieving Qatar’s long-term energy goals while reinforcing L&T’s standing as a leading player in global hydrocarbon infrastructure development.
