The Panvel exit on the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai-Pune Expressway is set to be closed for six months beginning 11 February. This closure is to facilitate the construction of a new flyover and underpass at Kalamboli Circle, part of the Kalamboli Junction improvement project undertaken by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
The Navi Mumbai Traffic Police have issued an order under the Motor Vehicles Act to enforce this closure until the project’s completion. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Tirupati Kakade, stated, “Once the project is completed, the issue of traffic congestion at Kalamboli Circle will be solved.”
The closure will impact all vehicles, including light and heavy transport, travelling towards Panvel, Mumbra, and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust. To mitigate inconvenience, the following alternative routes have been suggested:
- For vehicles heading towards Panvel, Goa, and JNPT: Divert at Konphata (9.600 km) to NH-48 via Palaspe Circle to reach the intended destinations.
- For vehicles travelling from Pune to Mumbai bound for Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata: Continue straight from 1.200 km on the Panvel-Sion Highway, take a right beneath the Purusharth Petrol Pump flyover, and proceed through Roadpali to NH-48.
Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and anticipate potential delays due to the diversion. The MSRDC aims to alleviate traffic congestion at Kalamboli Circle upon the project’s completion.
