Maharashtra’s ambitious plan to establish a 128-acre film city near Ramtek, Nagpur, is progressing swiftly. State Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar has directed the revenue department to expedite the land transfer for the proposed ‘Chitranagari’. This initiative, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Nagpur Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, has received in-principle approval from the cultural department.
Strategic Location
The designated site, adjacent to Khindsi Lake in Ramtek, offers an ideal setting for film production due to its picturesque landscape and proximity to forested areas. Officials highlight the project’s potential to boost tourism in the region. Plans also include a training centre to develop skilled professionals for the film industry.
Government Commitment
Minister of State for Cultural Affairs, Ashish Jaiswal, emphasised that the film city, approximately 40 km from Nagpur airport, will provide excellent infrastructure for filmmakers, especially those from neighbouring states like Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. A consultant will be appointed to ensure the project’s viability and success.
