Navi Mumbai is set to welcome a sprawling 200-hectare theme park, Wonder Park, inspired by California’s Disneyland. This ambitious project aims to transform the city’s entertainment landscape, offering a plethora of attractions for visitors of all ages.
A Glimpse into Wonder Park
Wonder Park promises an array of exhilarating experiences, featuring approximately 35 rides, including high-speed roller coasters and water slides. Visitors can also look forward to live entertainment shows, ensuring a comprehensive amusement experience. A standout feature will be the mini replicas of the Seven Wonders of the World, providing picturesque backdrops for memorable photographs. Additional amenities include an artificial lake, designated picnic spots, and a children’s play area, catering to families seeking leisurely outings.
Strategic Development and Economic Impact
This initiative is part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) Growth Hub project, spearheaded by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) in collaboration with NITI Aayog. The project’s objective is to position Mumbai as a global tourism hub, with Wonder Park serving as a cornerstone attraction. The Maharashtra government is extending financial incentives to private investors to bring this vision to fruition. The estimated investment ranges between USD 6-7 billion, with benefits such as tax breaks, reduced lease rents, extended lease periods, and increased Floor Space Index (FSI) to encourage participation.
The theme park is anticipated to generate substantial economic benefits, including the creation of thousands of jobs across sectors like hospitality, construction, and entertainment. Projections suggest that by 2030, Mumbai’s tourism revenue could quadruple, bolstered by attractions like Wonder Park. Local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and retail outlets, are expected to thrive due to the influx of tourists.
Timeline and Accessibility
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) aims to finalise land allocation for the park by 2025-26. Following this, a bidding process will invite private investors in 2026-27, with construction commencing in phases. Major attractions are slated to open to the public by 2030. Strategically located in Navi Mumbai, the park will benefit from proximity to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, ensuring seamless connectivity for both domestic and international visitors.
A senior MMRDA official remarked, “This theme park will transform Mumbai into a world-class destination. It will create jobs and make the city more attractive to global tourists.”
As anticipation builds, Wonder Park is poised to redefine entertainment tourism in India, setting new benchmarks for leisure and adventure.
