At least nine people were killed after tourist boats capsized in southwest China. The tragic incident took place in Guizhou province when strong winds suddenly hit the area, overturning four boats and throwing dozens into the water.
Rescue teams save 74, one still missing
According to local reports, 84 people were on board the boats. Rescuers managed to pull 74 people out alive. Sadly, nine were confirmed dead and one person remains missing. The search operation is still ongoing.
Massive response from authorities
Nearly 500 rescue workers were rushed to the scene after the boats overturned on Sunday afternoon. Most of the rescued passengers were taken to hospital. Doctors say their injuries are not life-threatening.
President Xi orders action
President Xi Jinping has called on provincial leaders to act swiftly. He told officials to “do everything possible” to help the victims and their families. He also urged them to tighten safety rules at tourist spots to prevent similar tragedies.
