President Honours Gallantry Awardees on Republic Day

On the eve of Republic Day, the President conferred prestigious gallantry awards to Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel for their extraordinary courage and service under extreme circumstances.

Shaurya Chakra was awarded to Corporal Dabhi Sanjay Hiffabai for his exceptional bravery during a terrorist ambush in Jammu and Kashmir. Despite suffering multiple injuries, he retaliated effectively, preventing further advances and ensuring the safety of his team and equipment.

Corporal Vikky Pahade was posthumously honoured with the Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) for his composure and valour during the same ambush. Despite sustaining critical injuries, his actions provided cover for his team to repel the attack.

Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry) were also awarded to:

Wing Commander Ankit Sood for conducting high-risk humanitarian missions during devastating floods in Himachal Pradesh. Over five days, he evacuated critically ill patients and delivered essential supplies in hostile weather and terrain.

Wing Commander Akshay Saxena for leading a daring anti-piracy operation in the Arabian Sea, navigating hostile airspace and ensuring the safe rescue of hostages.

Squadron Leader Prathamesh D Dongre, who skillfully managed a critical emergency in his MiG-21 Bison aircraft, preventing a potential disaster during a high-risk landing.

Group Captain Ankit Raj Singh, who carried out a hazardous night-time casualty evacuation in mountainous terrain, saving the life of an injured soldier while validating night operations for transport aircraft.

Flight Lieutenant Tarun Nair, for his composure and exceptional airmanship while recovering a severely malfunctioning MiG-29 during a challenging mission.

Shaurya Chakra was also awarded to Flight Lieutenant Aman Singh Hans, who displayed extraordinary courage after the canopy of his MiG-29 aircraft was blown off mid-flight. Navigating extreme conditions, he ensured a safe landing, averting potential loss of life and property.

These honours reflect the unwavering dedication and courage of the IAF personnel in safeguarding the nation and its citizens.
