The final 76 km stretch of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, connecting Igatpuri to Bhiwandi, is nearing completion and is set to open by March 2025. The last phase of construction, including lane-marking and painting, is scheduled for completion between February 25 and 27. Following the completion of these works, the expressway will be ready for its formal inauguration by Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, though the event will depend on his availability.
Once operational, the stretch will improve connectivity between Mumbai and Nagpur, cutting down travel time significantly. The expressway, part of the larger 701 km Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, has been launched in phases since December 2022. It will be fully accessible, offering various facilities like public utility areas that include rest stops, fuel stations, and eateries for commuters’ convenience.
This expressway, designed to support speeds up to 150 km/h, also integrates modern infrastructure such as wildlife underpasses, pedestrian crossings, and flyovers, ensuring both speed and safety. At the Amane end of the expressway, it will link up with the under-construction Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway, further enhancing regional connectivity.
This completion marks a milestone for the state’s infrastructure and is expected to boost both local economies and long-distance travel.
