Mumbai’s renowned Siddhivinayak Temple will soon enforce a dress code for visitors to ensure decorum and respect. Starting next week, devotees will not be allowed entry if they are wearing short skirts, torn trousers, or such revealing clothes.
The Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple Trust (SSGTT) issued a notice urging visitors to wear body-covering attire, with a preference for Indian clothing. The decision follows several complaints from devotees about inappropriate dressing, which caused discomfort at the temple.
The new guidelines specify that attire such as trousers with cuts or torn fabric, short skirts, and clothing that exposes body parts will be prohibited.
Siddhivinayak Temple, one of the most popular religious sites in Mumbai, attracts thousands of devotees daily. The temple also witnesses a massive influx of visitors during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi. Many visitors have expressed concerns about dress codes that they felt did not align with the temple’s sanctity.
This new rule will come into effect from next week, and the trust hopes it will help maintain a serene and respectful environment for all those seeking darshan at the temple.
The Maghi Ganesh Jayanti, a major occasion for worshipping Ganpati Bappa, is approaching. This festival draws large numbers of devotees to the temple each year. Will the introduction of the new dress code affect the number of visitors during this busy period?
