Global Summit Calls for Urgent Steps on Sustainability
The World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2025 opened in New Delhi. Organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), the event focuses on partnerships for sustainability and climate solutions.
The summit gathers global leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss environmental challenges. It aims to drive collaborations for sustainable development.
Leaders Stress Global Cooperation
Nitin Desai, Chairman of TERI, welcomed participants. He said WSDS plays a crucial role in shaping sustainability discussions worldwide.
TERI Director General Vibha Dhawan highlighted the need for innovation and collaboration. She stressed that climate change affects everyone, especially developing nations.
Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav reaffirmed India’s commitment to sustainability. He warned against speciesism, which prioritizes humans over nature. He urged global cooperation, stating, “The time to act is now.”
Guyana’s Prime Minister Mark Phillips emphasized international partnerships. He said Guyana balances economic growth with environmental sustainability.
Brazil’s Environment Minister Marina Silva called for urgent climate action. She urged nations to fulfill commitments made in global climate summits.
Awards and Special Announcements
The Sustainable Development Leadership Award was given to Bharrat Jagdeo, Vice President of Guyana, and Marina Silva for their contributions to climate action.
A special issue of TerraGreen was also launched, featuring research on environmental sustainability.
WSDS 2025 will run for two more days. It includes plenary sessions and exhibitions to advance climate discussions and partnerships.
