At a time when changing lifestyles are reshaping family relationships, filmmaker K.C. Bokadia hopes his television serial ‘Sanskaar’ will encourage people to value their loved ones and preserve the bonds that connect generations.
Family relationships often depend on small gestures, mutual respect and the willingness to stand by one another. With this thought at its centre, veteran filmmaker K.C. Bokadia is bringing a message about family values to television through his serial Sanskaar. The filmmaker recently celebrated the show’s reception with members of the media in Mumbai, cutting a cake and sharing the idea behind the family drama.
Airing Monday to Friday at 8 pm on DD National, Sanskaar explores family relationships, Indian culture and traditional values. Bokadia hopes the show will encourage viewers to reflect on their relationships and understand the importance of staying connected with their families.
A Story with a Social Message
Speaking to the media, Bokadia explained that the purpose of Sanskaar goes beyond entertainment. He believes that if the serial inspires even a small percentage of viewers to develop greater love and respect for their families, it will make the effort worthwhile.
“If watching the serial inspires even 10 per cent of people to develop greater love and respect for their families, understand the importance of joint families, prevent families from breaking apart and incorporate Indian values into their lives, it will be a great source of happiness for me,” he said.
Bokadia added that he created the show with a social message in mind rather than focusing on financial returns. He also expressed happiness that the serial is reaching households through Doordarshan, a broadcaster with a long-standing presence in Indian homes.
Familiar Values, Changing Times
Reflecting on the continued appeal of older films and songs, Bokadia said audiences still connect with stories that reflect Indian culture, family life and familiar values. He sees Sanskaar as an attempt to bring these themes to contemporary television.
According to the filmmaker, the production team receives hundreds of phone calls and messages after episodes from viewers in cities, towns and villages across different states. He said audiences have appreciated the show’s dialogues, cinematography, locations and storyline.
While family structures and lifestyles continue to change, the serial aims to highlight the importance of understanding between generations. Its central message is that family relationships need care, patience and mutual respect to remain strong.
An Ensemble Cast and Diverse Locations
Presented under the banner of BMB Productions, Sanskaar is written and directed by K.C. Bokadia and produced by Rajesh Bokadia and K.C. Bokadia.
The family drama features an ensemble cast that includes Darshan Jariwala, Zarina Wahab, Aman Verma, Mugdha Godse, Rakesh Bedi, Pankaj Berry, Mahesh Thakur, Supriya Karnik and Rajesh Khera, among others. The serial has been filmed in Varanasi, Jaipur, Mumbai and Kashmir, bringing together the distinct settings and cultural character of these locations.
Bokadia is known for directing films such as Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Teri Meherbaniyan, Kudrat Ka Kanoon, Aaj Ka Arjun, Phool Bane Angaray and Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam. Following his television project Sardar – The Game Changer, he continues his work on the small screen with Sanskaar.
For Bokadia, the show’s success would mean more than audience appreciation. His larger hope is that its stories encourage families to spend time together, respect one another and pass meaningful values on to younger generations.
