Apollo Hospital in Indore has partnered with Medtronic India to launch a specialised renal denervation therapy centre, aiming to transform hypertension care. The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on April 17, 2025.

Tackling India’s Silent Killer

Hypertension, often dubbed the “silent killer,” is one of India’s most widespread health concerns. According to the National Health Mission, it contributes to 1.6 million deaths annually due to ischemic heart disease and stroke. With only 20% of patients having their blood pressure under control globally, the need for innovation in treatment has become urgent.

What is Renal Denervation Therapy?

Renal denervation is a minimally invasive, catheter-based procedure that targets overactive nerves in the kidney, which are known to contribute to high blood pressure. This therapy is especially beneficial for patients with resistant or uncontrolled hypertension—those who do not respond well to medication alone.

Inside the Apollo–Medtronic Partnership

The new centre will focus on delivering advanced renal denervation therapy while training healthcare professionals in the latest technologies. Both Apollo Hospital and Medtronic will conduct workshops, clinical education sessions, and awareness campaigns for patients and caregivers.

“We’re bringing innovation to the forefront of hypertension care,” said Mandeep Singh Kumar, Managing Director and VP of Medtronic India. “This partnership aims to empower healthcare professionals with advanced resources while setting new standards in patient outcomes.”

A Step Forward in Cardiac Care

Dr. Sarita Rao, Senior Interventional Cardiologist and Director of the Cath Lab at Apollo Hospitals Indore, called the collaboration “a pivotal step” in Apollo’s mission to combat hypertension.

“We’re integrating advanced training and patient education tools. It’s about making care more impactful and sustainable,” she said.

Dr. Roshan Rao, Head of Cardiology at the hospital, highlighted the global scale of the issue. He noted that over 1 billion adults aged 30–79 suffer from hypertension, with diagnosis and treatment rates still alarmingly low.

Community Awareness Matters

As part of the joint mission, both organisations will work on public health campaigns to raise awareness about hypertension, its risks, and how patients can manage it proactively.

“It’s not just about procedures—it’s about educating people,” Dr. Roshan Rao added.

Conclusion

With this partnership, Apollo Hospital Indore and Medtronic are not just introducing cutting-edge treatment—they are building a future where high blood pressure is no longer a life sentence. As hypertension continues to rise, initiatives like this may provide the key to better health outcomes and fewer cardiovascular complications.
