A special screening of the Hindi patriotic film Azad Bharath was organised at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium in the Parliament Library Building. The event brought together Members of Parliament from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, along with officers and staff of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat and their families. The screening served as a tribute to Subhash Chandra Bose and the brave soldiers of the Indian National Army.
The film has been produced and directed by Roopa Iyer. It aims to highlight the sacrifices and vision of Netaji and his army. Through a cinematic narrative, the film seeks to revive the spirit of patriotism among viewers, especially the younger generation.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi attended the event as the chief guest. He felicitated veterans of the Indian National Army in recognition of their contribution to India’s freedom struggle. The honour acknowledged their courage and commitment during one of the most challenging periods in the nation’s history.
In addition, the minister also felicitated Dr Roopa Iyer and members of the film’s cast and crew before the screening began. The gesture recognised their efforts in bringing an important chapter of Indian history to the big screen.
The event witnessed the presence of several notable dignitaries. Among them was Meenakshi Lekhi, who is also the great granddaughter of Netaji. Her presence added emotional depth to the occasion. Alongside her, Rajyashree Chauduri and Dr K S Somashekhar, Additional Secretary of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, were also present. Their participation highlighted the significance of the event at an institutional level.
Speaking at the screening, Dr Roopa Iyer described the film as more than just a cinematic project. She said that Azad Bharath is a heartfelt tribute to the indomitable spirit of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and the soldiers of the INA. She added that the film aims to bring their sacrifices and ideals back into public consciousness. According to her, it is important for today’s youth to understand the values that shaped India’s freedom movement.
The film has been jointly produced by Dr Roopa Iyer and AB Jayagopal. Together, they have attempted to present a story that balances historical reverence with cinematic storytelling.

By honouring INA veterans and celebrating Netaji’s legacy, the occasion reinforced the importance of patriotism and national service.
