The Delhi government has presented a historic ₹1 lakh crore budget for the financial year 2025-26, focusing on infrastructure, healthcare, education, women’s welfare, and environmental sustainability. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta outlined the ambitious plan, which marks a 31.5% increase from the previous year’s budget.

Key highlights of the budget

1. Infrastructure development

  • The government has doubled capital expenditure to ₹28,000 crore.
  • ₹1,000 crore is allocated to enhance connectivity in Delhi and NCR.
  • ₹3,843 crore is dedicated to roads and bridges to improve urban mobility.

2. Healthcare upgrades

  • ₹2,144 crore is assigned to the PM Jan Arogya Yojana, ensuring better healthcare access.
  • More funds will be invested in upgrading government hospitals and clinics.

3. Support for women’s welfare

  • ₹5,100 crore allocated for ‘Mahila Samridhi Yojana,’ providing ₹2,500 per month to eligible women.
  • 50,000 new CCTV cameras will be installed across the city to improve safety.
  • Free travel for women on public transport will continue.
  • ₹210 crore has been set aside for nutrition support for pregnant women.

4. Boosting education

  • Free laptops will be distributed to students to promote digital literacy.
  • More funds will be directed toward upgrading government schools and hiring teachers.

5. Public welfare initiatives

  • ₹100 crore is allocated for setting up 100 Atal Canteens, offering subsidised meals to residents.
  • ₹696 crore will go toward slum redevelopment and housing improvements.

6. Water supply & sanitation

  • ₹9,000 crore dedicated to ensuring clean drinking water for all.
  • ₹500 crore for upgrading sewer treatment plants.
  • ₹250 crore for replacing old sewer lines across the city.

7. Environmental protection

  • A significant investment will be made to clean and revive the Yamuna River.
  • More green spaces and pollution control measures will be implemented.

A vision for Delhi’s future

Presenting the budget, CM Rekha Gupta called it a “historic step towards a new and developed Delhi.” She highlighted the government’s commitment to transparency and efficiency, promising that this budget will accelerate growth after years of stagnation.

With a strong focus on social welfare, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability, the Delhi Budget 2025-26 aims to transform the capital into a model city for the future.
