Chandrayaan-4: A Step Towards 2040 Moon Mission
India is gearing up for Chandrayaan-4, a mission that will test advanced lunar docking and sample collection. The mission aims to strengthen India’s space capabilities and support its goal of establishing a space station by 2040.
Dr. Jitendra Singh, while addressing the Lok Sabha, shared crucial details about the mission. He confirmed that Chandrayaan-4 will involve multiple modules executing complex manoeuvres, including docking in Earth’s orbit before heading to the Moon.
Upon reaching lunar orbit, the modules will separate. The descender will collect samples, while the ascender will return and dock with other modules. The return module will then bring the samples back to Earth. This will simulate critical aspects of crewed lunar missions.
Astronaut Selected for ISS Mission
Dr Jitendra Singh also provided updates on India’s human spaceflight program, Gaganyaan. Four astronauts are currently in training. One of them, Group Captain Shukla, has been selected for a mission to the International Space Station. The other three continue intensive preparations.
Sunita Williams’ Return and Modi’s Invitation
Sunita Williams landed back on Earth at 3:27 AM after over 300 days in space. India congratulated her through social media soon after.
PM Narendra Modi also sent a letter wishing her well and inviting her to visit India. He had previously met her in 2007 when he was Gujarat’s Chief Minister.
India’s Expanding Space Ambitions
Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted that India’s advancements in space technology are benefiting multiple sectors, including urban planning, disaster management, healthcare, and agriculture.
With Chandrayaan-4, India is set to take another big step in space exploration. The mission is expected to enhance the country’s position in the global space race and pave the way for deep-space missions.
