In a major move towards empowering small businesses, India SME Forum (ISF) has launched a nationwide seller education campaign in collaboration with Amazon India, backed by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India.

The campaign aims to raise awareness among MSME sellers about Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) compliance and product safety, a growing need highlighted in recent media reports. The initiative will help equip sellers with the knowledge and tools required to stay compliant in India’s expanding digital economy.

Helping MSMEs stay compliant

The campaign is being executed by Forum for Internet Retailers, Sellers & Traders (FIRST)—ISF’s B2C division. It features:

  • Workshops and webinars
  • Short educational videos and films
  • Helpline support
  • Practical content tailored to sellers

These efforts will build capacity among sellers and reduce the compliance burden, especially for small businesses with limited resources.

What the leaders say

Vinod Kumar, President, India SME Forum, said:

“Our aim is to enable small businesses to thrive with the right knowledge, tools, and transparency. We welcome Amazon India’s partnership to help sellers meet formalities and safety benchmarks.”

Amit Nanda, Director, Selling Partner Services, Amazon India, added:

“We’re committed to ensuring that sellers on Amazon.in provide compliant and safe products. These sessions will guide them in understanding and meeting BIS standards.”

Key discussions & live streams

The campaign includes a webinar series under the “Enterprise Matters” platform—focusing on challenges and critical issues faced by MSMEs. These sessions will host:

  • Sellers
  • Manufacturers
  • Industry experts
  • Policymakers

The webinars will discuss BIS standards, compliance best practices, and how these affect consumer trust. They will also explore policy updates and collaboration opportunities between sellers and regulators.
