Ahead of the much-awaited ICC Champions Trophy 2025, a fresh controversy has stirred as the Indian flag was notably absent at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, Pakistan, and the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Fans have swiftly reacted, with many speculating that this move was a response from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) decision to not send the Indian team to Pakistan for the event.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the flags of seven participating teams were seen displayed, including the host country’s flag, but the tricolour of India was notably missing. This sparked widespread discussion on various platforms, with many hinting that the absence of India’s flag was a symbolic gesture from the PCB following BCCI’s refusal to send their team to Pakistan. The refusal followed political tensions and logistical concerns, with India opting to play their group-stage matches in Dubai as part of a hybrid model, leaving uncertainty about the venue for the knockout stages.
The Champions Trophy, which kicks off on February 19, 2025, will see the host nation Pakistan take on New Zealand, and India will face Bangladesh the following day. However, despite the controversy surrounding the flag, organisers are pressing ahead with the tournament, which promises thrilling cricket action across both Karachi and Dubai.
