Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a post-budget webinar on agriculture and rural prosperity. He announced the ‘PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana’ to develop 100 low-yield agricultural districts.
Focus on 100 Low-Yield Districts
The scheme aims to improve agricultural productivity in the least developed farm districts. Modi highlighted past success with the Aspirational Districts programme. The new initiative will follow a similar model to increase farmers’ income.
Investments in Agriculture and Nutrition
Modi pointed out that India’s agricultural output has grown from 265 million tons to over 330 million tons in a decade. Horticulture production has crossed 350 million tons. He stressed the need to boost pulse production, as India still imports 20% of its demand.
A national mission for high-yield seeds has also been launched. Modi urged the private sector to help distribute these seeds to small farmers.
Support for Fisheries and Dairy
The Prime Minister spoke about growing demand for horticulture, dairy, and fisheries. The government has increased investment in these sectors. The PM Matsya Sampada Yojana has doubled fish production and exports. Plans are underway for sustainable fishing in India’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
Rural Development Initiatives
Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to rural prosperity. Under PM Awas Yojana-Gramin, millions of people are getting homes. The Swamitva Yojana provides landowners with property records. He also highlighted efforts to support self-help groups and small businesses.
The government aims to create 3 crore Lakhpati Didis, with 1.25 crore women already achieving this status. Investments in skilling and technology are generating rural jobs.
Call for Collaboration
Modi called for stakeholder participation to ensure the success of budget announcements. He stressed that collaboration will help drive rural prosperity and agricultural growth.
