In a significant step towards democratising access to the entertainment industry, Birla Studios has partnered with Vodafone Idea Limited to launch ‘Reel Se Real Star’, a first-of-its-kind mobile-first acting talent discovery platform. Announced in Mumbai on April 13, 2026, the initiative aims to break traditional barriers and create equal opportunities for aspiring actors across India.
Built on the idea that talent can emerge from anywhere, the platform removes long-standing challenges such as geography, limited access, and industry connections. With just a smartphone, participants can now showcase their acting skills and be discovered, making the dream of entering cinema more accessible than ever before.
Sharing her vision, Ananya Birla, Founder and Chairperson of Birla Studios, emphasised the importance of creating inclusive platforms. She noted that talent often goes unnoticed due to lack of opportunity, and with today’s digital reach, there is a strong chance to change that narrative. According to her, ‘Reel Se Real Star’ is an attempt to ensure that opportunity is no longer limited by circumstance, but instead driven by ability and passion.
Adding to this, Abhijit Kishore highlighted the role of connectivity in enabling opportunities. He stated that the initiative brings the audition process directly into the hands of millions of aspiring actors nationwide. Leveraging Vodafone Idea’s vast digital network of over 200 million users, the platform aims to reach participants not just in metropolitan cities but also in remote villages.
The initiative will function through a fully digital, app and web-led journey. Participants can upload their audition videos directly, eliminating the need for referrals or physical auditions. This streamlined process ensures that talent discovery becomes more transparent, inclusive, and efficient.
What sets ‘Reel Se Real Star’ apart is its blend of mass participation with expert mentorship. Participants will be guided and evaluated by experienced directors and creative professionals, ensuring that the process maintains high standards of quality and credibility. This combination of accessibility and expertise creates a unique ecosystem where raw talent can be nurtured into refined performance.
The winners of the talent hunt will receive a breakthrough opportunity to work in a feature film alongside an established director. This real-world exposure is expected to provide a strong launchpad for emerging artists looking to make a mark in the industry.
