Turkey’s national flag carrier Turkish Airlines has announced a major change in its executive management structure. The airline has appointed new leaders to key positions as part of its evolving corporate strategy.
Prof. Murat Şeker has been named Chairman of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee. At the same time, Ahmet Olmuştur has taken over as the Chief Executive Officer. These changes are expected to guide the airline through its next phase of growth and global expansion.
Prof. Murat Şeker brings years of financial and strategic experience to his new role. He has previously served as Chief Financial Officer at Turkish Airlines. During his tenure, he handled critical areas such as financing, treasury operations, procurement, and investor relations. His leadership in these domains played a key role in strengthening the airline’s financial position.
Before joining Turkish Airlines, Prof. Şeker worked as an economist at the World Bank from 2008 to 2013. There, he contributed to policy research on innovation, international trade, and economic growth in developing countries. Later, he served at Ziraat Bank as Senior Vice President, where he managed international funding and investor relations.
In addition to his corporate career, Prof. Şeker has remained active in academia. He taught as a part-time instructor at Boğaziçi University and was awarded the title of Professor in December 2025. He is also associated with the Financial Advisory Council of the International Air Transport Association, where he currently serves as Chair.
Meanwhile, Ahmet Olmuştur’s appointment as CEO marks a significant internal success story. He began his journey with Turkish Airlines in 2000 as a part-time employee at the call centre. Over the years, he steadily rose through the ranks, gaining experience across various departments.
He later worked as a Flight Analyst in Revenue Management and went on to hold several important roles. These included Manager of Global Distribution Systems, Manager of Revenue Management and Pricing, and Senior Vice President of Revenue Management. Most recently, he served as Chief Commercial Officer, where he led strategic sales and marketing operations.
Ahmet Olmuştur holds a degree in Business Administration from Marmara University. He also completed an MBA through an international programme involving institutions in New York, London, and Paris. His global exposure and deep understanding of airline operations are expected to benefit the company in his new role.
These leadership changes highlight Turkish Airlines’ focus on continuity and internal growth. By appointing experienced professionals who understand the organisation, the airline aims to strengthen its global presence. The move also reflects its commitment to long-term strategic development in a competitive aviation market.
