US Calls for Caution Amid Soaring Indo-Pak Tensions
In the wake of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the United States has issued a strong but balanced statement urging India to act responsibly and avoid igniting a regional conflict. The attack, which claimed the lives of 12 Indian security personnel, has sparked widespread outrage and heightened diplomatic strain with Pakistan.
JD Vance Sends Cautious Message to India
US Vice President JD Vance, addressing the Global Leadership & Business Summit (GLBS), called the attack “deeply troubling” and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. However, he stressed that India’s response should be “measured, strategic, and avoid any escalation that could spiral into a regional war.”
“We stand by India in its fight against terror,” Vance said, “but we also hope for restraint and wisdom in this tense hour.”
His comments were seen as a signal to both India and Pakistan, urging both nuclear-armed neighbours to steer away from a warpath.
America Expects Pakistan to Cooperate
In a parallel statement, a US State Department spokesperson said Washington expects full cooperation from Pakistan in tracking down those responsible for the Pahalgam attack. The spokesperson underscored the need for Pakistan to take “visible, verifiable action” against terror groups operating from its soil.
The Biden administration also hinted that it was in touch with officials from both India and Pakistan, offering support in intelligence sharing and anti-terror coordination.
India Mulls Options as Global Attention Mounts
Back in New Delhi, officials are weighing diplomatic and strategic options. Reports suggest a multi-layered response, including review of water-sharing agreements, trade restrictions, and strong messaging at international forums. Military retaliation has not been ruled out, but India is currently focused on building global pressure against Pakistan-backed terror networks.
Defence analysts believe India is being watched closely by global powers who are keen to avoid another full-scale conflict in South Asia.
Tense Times for the Region
The terror strike in Pahalgam has once again exposed the fragility of peace in Kashmir. It also puts fresh strain on Indo-US diplomatic ties, especially with Washington attempting to balance support for India while keeping diplomatic lines open with Islamabad.
India’s final response to the attack is still under wraps, but the message from the US is clear — act strong, but stay smart.
