US Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard has embarked on a multi-nation tour of the Indo-Pacific region, with India as a key destination. This visit aims to strengthen ties and enhance communication channels between the United States and its regional partners.
Gabbard’s journey commenced with a stop in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she engaged with intelligence community partners and leaders at the US Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM). She also visited American troops participating in training exercises, underscoring the United States’ commitment to regional security and cooperation.
In her statement, Gabbard emphasised the importance of building strong relationships, understanding, and maintaining open lines of communication to achieve President Trump’s objectives of peace, freedom, and prosperity.
This visit marks Gabbard’s first trip to India since her confirmation as DNI. Her nomination was approved by the Senate in a 52-48 vote, with most Republicans supporting her despite initial reservations over her past remarks on Russia and her meeting with former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Gabbard’s visit to India follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US in February, where he met with Gabbard and discussed enhancing bilateral intelligence cooperation. Their discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in areas such as counter-terrorism, cybersecurity, emerging threats, and strategic intelligence sharing. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a secure, stable, and rules-based international order.
Gabbard’s itinerary also includes visits to Japan and Thailand, reflecting the United States’ strategic focus on the Indo-Pacific region. These engagements aim to reinforce relationships and maintain open channels of communication with key allies and partners.
As the United States continues to navigate complex geopolitical dynamics, Gabbard’s visit underscores the importance of intelligence collaboration and diplomatic engagement in promoting regional stability and security.
