As Chhattisgarh marks 25 years since its formation, the state celebrated a major milestone on November 1, 2025, with the inauguration of its new Vidhan Sabha building in Nava Raipur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the modern complex to the people of the state, calling it a “pilgrimage site of democracy.” The event also featured the unveiling of a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who had played a key role in the creation of Chhattisgarh in 2000.
A journey from 2000 to 2025
Formed on 1 November 2000, Chhattisgarh was carved out of Madhya Pradesh to ensure better governance and development for its people. Over the last two and a half decades, the state has evolved from a resource-based economy into one with growing infrastructure, education, and technology sectors.
The inauguration of the new Assembly building symbolises this journey. What began with the first legislative session held under a tent has now matured into a fully equipped, modern complex that reflects both progress and pride.
A building that reflects vision
The new Vidhan Sabha in Nava Raipur has been designed with sustainability and local identity in mind. Built at an estimated cost of ₹324 crore, the structure features solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems, and tribal art motifs inspired by the Bastar region. The circular layout symbolises unity and inclusiveness, while the advanced digital systems enable paperless sessions, making it one of the most technologically advanced legislative buildings in India.
Beyond architecture, it represents the state’s belief that governance should be both modern and rooted in culture.
Honouring Vajpayee’s legacy
The unveiling of Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s statue during the silver jubilee celebrations added an emotional touch to the occasion. Vajpayee’s government had created Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand in 2000 as part of his vision for decentralised development. By honouring him, the state paid tribute to the leader who believed that smaller states could serve citizens more effectively.
Prime Minister Modi described Vajpayee as “the architect of Chhattisgarh’s dream” and called the new Assembly a symbol of that vision.
Looking towards 2047
While celebrating its past, Chhattisgarh is also setting goals for the future. The silver jubilee was not just a moment of reflection but also of planning. The Prime Minister spoke about the importance of linking state development with India’s larger vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Chhattisgarh’s strengths in minerals, agriculture, and energy production give it a key role in this national journey. The government has been focusing on industrial diversification, renewable energy, and tribal welfare to ensure balanced growth.
A new phase of confidence
The inauguration of the Assembly building and the silver jubilee celebrations together sent out a message of confidence and renewal. The state, once known mainly for its forests and minerals, is now emerging as a centre of innovation and smart governance.
As Chhattisgarh steps into its next 25 years, it aims to balance tradition with technology, growth with inclusiveness, and progress with sustainability. The new Vidhan Sabha stands as a reminder that the journey of a state is not only about buildings or infrastructure it is about the hopes and voices of its people.
