Netflix is preparing to shake up India’s reality entertainment landscape with the launch of Lock Upp: Sach ya Sazaa, a high-stakes captive reality show that promises drama, conflict, strategy and unexpected revelations. Produced in collaboration with Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms Ltd, the series will premiere on June 27 and stream every Saturday to Wednesday at 8 PM exclusively on Netflix.
Hosted by actor Riteish Deshmukh and filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan, the show introduces a unique format where 14 celebrity contestants, referred to as inmates, are placed inside a controlled environment designed to test their resilience, relationships and ability to survive under pressure.
Unlike conventional reality programmes that focus primarily on tasks and competition, Lock Upp: Sach ya Sazaa centres on truth, perception and personal revelations. Contestants will be cut off from the outside world and stripped of everyday comforts while navigating a series of challenges that can alter alliances and change the course of the game overnight.
The six-week reality series is designed as an immersive entertainment experience, featuring daily tasks, status hierarchies, punishments, chargesheets and eliminations. As the pressure mounts, contestants will be forced to confront difficult choices, expose hidden truths and adapt to constantly shifting dynamics within the jail-like setting.
According to Netflix India, the series forms a key part of the platform’s expanding unscripted content slate. Tanya Bami, Series Head at Netflix India, described the show as one of the streaming giant’s biggest reality offerings of the year. She noted that the concept explores human behaviour under pressure while delivering compelling entertainment and daily engagement for viewers.
The series also marks a major milestone for Riteish Deshmukh, who steps into a new avatar as a reality-show host. Joined by Farah Khan, the duo will serve as the show’s ‘Jailers’, overseeing the contestants and witnessing every twist, confrontation and emotional breakdown.
Speaking about the format, Riteish said the show reflects the times people live in today, where public perception often shapes reality. He believes the environment will test not only contestants’ strategies but also their ability to remain true to themselves when faced with constant scrutiny and pressure.
Farah Khan added that the format strips away filters and retakes, forcing participants to reveal their authentic personalities. She described the show as an unpredictable and entertaining social experiment where emotions, conflicts and alliances evolve rapidly.
Ekta Kapoor, whose original concept inspired the format, expressed confidence that the partnership with Netflix would take the show to a wider global audience. She emphasised that the essence of Lock Upp lies in creating conversations, debates and moments that viewers cannot ignore.
With a mix of celebrity personalities, strategic gameplay and emotional storytelling, Lock Upp: Sach ya Sazaa aims to offer a fresh take on the reality genre. As secrets emerge and loyalties are tested, the series promises viewers a daily dose of suspense, drama and entertainment.
Streaming from June 27, the show seeks to redefine captive reality television for Indian audiences while reaching viewers across the globe through Netflix’s international platform.
